THE FIRST GUN / SAN QIANG PAI AN JING QI

In the most unlikely remake of the year, Zhang Yimou relocates Cohen Brothers' 1984 "Blood Simple" from Texas to China and dresses it up with elaborate costumes, sharp blades, murder and first-class humor. The plot does not stray far from the original: a noodle shop owner hires a low-life local officer to off his cheating wife and her lover, but predictably, everything goes haywire, as both the wife and the officer have some plans of their own.
