Through the depths of history, Kaspar Hauser, the legendary child who grew up locked in a cell in total isolation, is washed up on the shores of a near-desert island somewhere in the Mediterranean. The Sheriff, a local DJ, rescues the blond boy with the headphones, believing he’s Jesus. But Duchess, the ruling authority of the island, takes issue with the kid’s growing popularity and sends over The Pusher - one of her delinquent lackeys - to do some damage control. Vincent Galo plays both The Sheriff and The Pusher in a haunting twin performance against the Β&W backdrop of a ravaged desert with neorealist undertones. Vitalic’s disco soundtrack is the real backbone of the film, setting the pace for a surrealist fable inhabited by the characters of a poem that time forgot in a place that doesn’t exist. Manuli abandons linear narrative in favor of freewheeling experimentation in one of the most surprising films of the year that’s bound to elicit smiles from those operating on the same frequency.
