Shut Up and Play the Hits
Everything’s crystal clear when you first set out to conquer the world, but by the time your band has decided to dismantle, things aren’t so simple. In February 2011, James Murphy, founder and leading member of LCD Soundsystem, posted a message on the band’s official website informing fans that on April 2nd the band would play their last live show before breaking up.
The pioneers of punk disco, who changed dance music forever with their trailblazing albums and high-octane shows, had reached the end of the road. But Murphy didn’t just stop there. He had the guts to assign Lovelace and Southern the task of documenting the last 48 hours of the band, ensuring their Madison Square Garden performance would truly be their last. Moving and uplifting at the same time, "Shut Up and Play the Hits" manages to capture the incredible intensity of their swan song in 105 exhilarating minutes, a priceless audiovisual memento the band chose to leave behind for anyone who had the misfortune of missing the party.
