Crazed Fruit

During a blistering summer, Natsu initiates his younger brother Haru to the hedonistic habits of his inner circle, a group of young men who spend their time playing cards, chasing women and working the nightclub circuit.

During a blistering summer, Natsu initiates his younger brother Haru to the hedonistic habits of his inner circle, a group of young men who spend their time playing cards, chasing women and working the nightclub circuit. When the beautiful and mysterious Eri responds to Haru’s awkward advances, a bitter rivalry arises between the two brothers, poisoning their relationship forever. Unable to make up her mind between the attentions of an experienced ladies’ man and the purity of a teenage heart, the girl will drive them both over the edge. Based on Shintarô Ishihara’s infamous novel and shot in an atmosphere of sweltering eroticism and escalating tension that will eventually reach disturbing heights, Nakahira’s seminal film was largely responsible for the anarchist teenage movie trend of the 60s, shocking mainstream Japanese audiences with its amoral approach to the dilemmas of a self-destructive generation with no dreams and no future to call their own.
