Coming Home
A young woman is waiting at a bus stop. She’s looking at the poster of a missing girl. The photograph is clearly of her, only 8 years younger. Gaëlle was kidnapped by a worker who had been keeping her locked up. Her kidnapper has just set her free, and she’s now obliged to carve her own path. Gaëlle has to learn everything from scratch and how to live with her nightmares.

"Coming Home" is an ambitious character study about two people who affect each other’s personalities and often end up switching roles. Videau builds his script around masterful flashbacks that unfold the tale of a complicated relationship, while pondering the victim/victimizer dynamic against the backdrop of a mutated Stockholm syndrome. If the basis of the story is emotionally violent and devastatingly raw, he makes sure to insert pockets of warmth and humor, reminding everyone that a good joke can survive the most adverse circumstances.
