Attractive Illusion

There’s no shortage of fiction and non-fiction films about immigration, as the country strives to redefine its new state of multiculturalism. What sets "Attractive Illusion" apart is the fact that it’s exclusively populated by immigrants, supported and adopted by the Nigerian community of Athens.

There’s no shortage of fiction and non-fiction films about immigration, as the country strives to redefine its new state of multiculturalism. What sets "Attractive Illusion" apart is the fact that it’s exclusively populated by immigrants, supported and adopted by the Nigerian community of Athens. Their goal was to show their fellow countrymen that Europe isn’t the paradise they thought it would be. It’s nothing but an "Attractive Illusion", luring them into debt for a journey that’s perilous at best. Those who manage to survive will have to fight against racism, poverty, prostitution and drugs. The film was shaped by the real-life stories and improvisation of the main cast, who partially narrate their own experiences. The script was a collaborative process, which managed to bridge the gap between the two cultures (Nigerian and Greek) for the first time, bringing the project to fruition.
