The Strange Little Cat

Directed and edited with surgical precision, sometimes funny and other times indeterminately disturbing, ?The Strange Little Cat? is a light-hearted experiment that confirms the invisible magic of domesticity in a flawlessly choreographed carnival of people, pets and objects.

An average German family, a middle-class Berlin apartment, a day like any other. On that specific day, culminated in a big dinner, friends, relatives and neighbors come and go, electrical appliances get repaired, children and cats vie for the adults’ attention, while tenants and guests do the cooking, tell stories or discover unorthodox methods of communication under the watchful eye of a fiery-red feline.

Closely observing the goings-on during this seemingly uneventful day, while embellishing the action with small surrealist touches and bizarre dialogue, Ramon Zürcher arranges the family’s tedious routine into a small miracle of chain reactions and coincidences, reminiscent of Jacques Tati’s optical gags or Chantal Akerman’s essay films.

    The Great Flood

    The Great Flood

Without using any dialogue, exclusively drawing on found footage of the period - often in an advanced state of decay - the maestro of avant garde filmmaking uses a tragic incident as an excuse to create a beautiful, otherworldly spectacle.

    Just Ancient Loops

The 26-minute ?Ancient Loops? merge old images depicting the beginning of time with digital reconstructions of the universe. With the help of an imposing score, they constitute an abstract audiovisual experience of unfathomable beauty.
