A biker gang roams the streets of Baltimore on a daily basis, looking for a little excitement and terrorizing the residents and the local police with their reckless stunts that defy the laws of gravity. A starry-eyed 13-year-old boy, growing up in one of the city’s underprivileged neighborhoods, tries to follow in their footsteps in search of a role model and some hope for the future.
Following him around for the duration of three years, as the world around him turns into a series of never-ending rituals of survival, stoicism and temporary escape from adversity, the director of this brilliant documentary captures a little-seen way of life that’s rarely depicted in fiction filmmaking. At the same time, he witnesses a coming-of-age story in a modern metropolitan reality, depicting the end of innocence as honestly and as humanly as possible. L.K.
