The Rendez-Vous of Déjà-Vu

Undoubtedly the sweetest and zaniest comedy you’ll get to see this year, ?The Rendez-Vous of Déjà-Vu? is in love with 20s Hollywood humor and the Nouvelle Vague all at once.

It’s summertime in Paris and the weather is unbearably hot. Hector meets Truquette shortly before Bastille Day, the anniversary of the French Revolution. Eager to impress her, he invites her on a little trip along with her friend but their plans go awry, as the French government has decided to cut down on summer holidays by a month because of the credit crunch.

Undoubtedly the sweetest and zaniest comedy you’ll get to see this year, “The Rendez-Vous of Déjà-Vu” is in love with 20s Hollywood humor and the Nouvelle Vague all at once. Drenched in red and blue, the Mediterranean colors of “Pierrot le Fou”, Antonin Peretjatko’s feature debut lashes out - with hilarious results - at the bank-induced credit crunch, the make-believe affluence of the French and Europe’s infatuation with capitalism. If Godard made slapstick vignettes, they would surely look a little something like this! Ph.V.
