A Field in England

Stylistically and dramatically bold, delightfully inventive and totally paranoid, the new sardonic comedy courtesy of Ben Wheatley promises to submerge you in an unprecedented psychedelic trip to the far corners of British history

After dragging the gangster film genre down bottomless pits of horror (“Kill List”) and infusing romantic comedy with serial killers and black satire (“Sightseers”), the most quirky director in the UK takes it upon himself to deliver his own eccentric version of a period film.

It’s 1964 and a group of British soldiers defect from a Civil War battleground only to fall prey to a very menacing character who forces them to follow him into a treasure hunt in the middle of a mysterious field. The consumption of hallucinogenic mushrooms is only the beginning of this nightmarish experience that includes dark alchemy, resurrection, eerie shapeshifting and other dangerous side-effects.

Stylistically and dramatically bold, delightfully inventive and totally paranoid, the new sardonic comedy courtesy of Ben Wheatley promises to submerge you in an unprecedented psychedelic trip to the far corners of British history, embellished with broad brushstrokes of horror. Special Jury Prize at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. Th.P.
