Happy Slapping

A group of affluent suburban kids escape their bored apathy by roaming the streets of the city in a night full of random violence.

A group of affluent suburban kids escape their bored apathy by roaming the streets of the city in a night full of random violence. They record the assaults on their cellphone, a new trend called happy slapping where you attack unsuspecting strangers for the sole reason of recording their reaction and posting the video online. Their rivalry with an enemy gang will push them to try something even more extreme in a desperate attempt to gain notoriety.

But what are they willing to put on the line to achieve their goal in the limited time they have left? How far are they willing to go for their 15 minutes of fame which society keeps glorifying, even if it is horrified at how it was achieved? This radical film, entirely shot on iPhones by the teenage protagonists, provides all the answers, brilliantly capturing this irrational new trend. Ch.L.

I'll let you know what he's doing: he has written and directed it, he has composed and recorded the score and he's even helmed the production, just to prove he's a little more than every comic book nerd's new favorite director.

Based on a bloody page in South Korean history that is all but forgotten, Muel O. zeroes in on the attempts of an entire village to escape certain death by hiding out in underground caves, faced with freezing temperatures, starvation and fear. Avoiding a traditional reenactment, the director chooses to highlight intimate moments on both sides of the fence.
