Golfo in Epidaurus

What's it like documenting the birth of a bona fide classic? How does it feel to film a play at the Ancient Theater at Epidaurus that was made to draw energy from the surrounding mountains? How do you film innocence lost?

What's it like documenting the birth of a bona fide classic? How does it feel to film a play at the Ancient Theater at Epidaurus that was made to draw energy from the surrounding mountains? How do you film innocence lost?

What's it like filming something with tears in your eyes? What does it feel like filming "Golfo" at Epidaurus? In August 2013, "Golfo", directed by Nikos Karathanos, was staged at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus, following an extraordinarily successful run over the previous winter.

Elias Giannakakis shot most of the footage himself with valuable collaborator Aposotlia Papaioannou manning the second camera unit. The two of them filmed in Epidavros for a week, sticking as close to Nikos Karathanos and his team as humanly possible, tracing the creative core of this seminal stage production.

The sensational filming experience eventually led to a film that captures some of the emotion and the beauty of this wonderful performance.
