At Home

"At Home" is an honest, minimal melodrama with a Spartan aesthetic, featuring a strong and simple main character. As Sören Kierkegaard so elegantly put it, purity of heart is to will one thing and this is her story.

Nadia has been Evi's and Stefanos's housekeeper for the past 12 years - they're almost like family. Apart from housework, Nadia is practically raising the couple's daughter Iris, as if she was her own. When Nadia starts having health issues, her relationship with Evi and Stefanos changes drastically, but she reacts in a totally unexpected way.

In his first Greek film, Berlin-based Athanasios Karanikolas deals with social injustice from a neglected point of view using distinct cinematic references, while maintaining a safe distance from your run-of-the-mill social drama.
