The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution

2/10/2015, 18:00, Odeon Όπερα 1

The rapid rise, adventurous political trajectory and dramatic fall of the guerilla movement that infamous FBI director J. Edgar Hoover declared "the greatest threat to the internal security of the country". A unique documentary featuring rare archival material and revealing interviews with some of its leading members.

The black community embraced it as the most significant movement against racism and police brutality. The American authorities considered it dangerous and tried to dismantle it. The secret service ordered its annihila- tion. Five decades after it was first established, a documentary takes it upon itself to restore the truth behind the explosive activity, the complicated ideology and the monumental significance of the Black Panther legacy. Through admirable archival material and revelatory interviews with the founding members, "Black Panthers: Van- guard of the Revolution" has managed to become the most authentic and well-argued testament in the history of the most controversial movement in the African-American struggle.
