Cartel Land

3/10/2015, 20:30, Ιντεάλ

A silent drug war rages on the US-Mexico border. Vigilante patrols from both countries work together against the all-powerful Mexican cartels in a boombastic documentary that will no doubt make an appearance in the 2016 Oscars shortlists.

A physician in Michoacán, Mexico leads citizen patrol group Autodefensas against the local drug cartel. Across the US border in Arizona's Altar Valley - a narrow, 52-mile-long desert corridor known as Cocaine Alley – veteran Tim Foley heads paramilitary group Arizona Border Recon working to prevent Mexico's drug wars from entering U.S. territory. Two independent vigilante groups facing the same enemy. How legitimate is it for citizens to take the law in their own hands to protect their land and their family when the complete absence of any government controls has lead the country into complete chaos and insecurity? This burning question permeates every single frame of this brave, provocative, guerrilla documentary that won the Directing and Cinematography Awards at Sundance and the Silver St. George Best Documentary Award at the Moscow International Film Festival.
