(Work in Progress)

In Fall of 2013 acclaimed theatrical director Michael Marmarinos made up his mind to stage "Faust". The camera follows him from the very first day of rehearsals until opening night in January 2014. Through long and grueling shooting days and a huge amount of footage, the film attempts to capture the unique process of an idiosyncratic and highly innovative stage director. Yet this isn't a portrait. The film makes a genuine effort to shed light on the methods he employed on this extremely demanding and timeless text, showcasing the main axis of his thought process. Simplicity to the point of reality, actors that serve as human documents instead of dramatic vessels, going against the usual theatricality in favor of empathy. A process that's been under constant renewal for the past 35 years and is still as relevant as ever.
