13 completely different women are trapped in a beauty salon when violence erupts in the streets of Gaza. A seemingly typical situation comedy cleverly turns into a rather unusual and very timely sociopolitical allegory. Screened in Cannes as part of the Critics' Week competition.

Christine's beauty parlor attracts a very eclectic clientele: a woman addicted to prescription drugs, a bitter di- vorcee, a deeply religious young woman, a bride-to-be with her mother and future mother-in-law, an expectant mother who's convinced she's about to give birth and the girlfriend of a mafioso. 13 completely different women will face their fears when violence erupts in the streets of Gaza, forcing them to stay cooped up in the salon. A Palestinian tragicomedy about women that's both unexpected and fresh, full of delicious plot twists and small surprises. Starting out a typical situation comedy, where women talk about relationships peppered with hot gos- sip, the film turns into a timely miniature version of the male dominated Gaza society, an insightful portrait of everyday lives constantly at stake - politically, personally and culturally - in one of the most vulnerable places on earth.
