Extraordinary Tales

3/10/2015, 22:30, Ιντεάλ

Fantasy cinema legends, old and new, lend their voices to five animation stories based on Edgar Allan Poe novels. A beautiful anthology of gothic horror for film and book lovers alike. Consider yourselves warned!

Five horror animation shorts, reinterpreting the idiosyncratic style and those chills and thrills especially reserved for Edgar Allan Poe stories. The connecting link is a recurring encounter between the writer (in the form of a crow) and Death himself. The first story, "The Fall of the House of Usher", is narrated by the inimitable Christopher Lee in his final performance. The black & white "Tell-Tale Heart", based on a noir version of Poe’s novella, uses a rare recording of Bela Lugosi’s voice, a legend unto himself. Julian Sands takes on "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar" about a doctor who discovers a secret portal between life and death. "The Pit and the Pendulum" is a metaphysical suspense thriller set in the Holy Inquisition era, narrated by Guillermo del Toro. Roger Corman – a veteran of Edgar Alan Poe adaptations - closes the anthology with "The Masque of the Red Death", chronicling the desperate struggle of the guests attending a grand ball, to defeat death.
