Nahid

1/10/2015, 20:00, Ιντεάλ

A divorcee is trying to navigate the labyrinthine written and unwritten laws of Iran. She wins custody of her son under one condition: never to remarry. But what happens when she falls in love again? Sareh Bayat ("A Separation") takes on the challenging main character.

Nahid is getting divorced. Despite the fact that, according to Iranian law, the custody of the child goes to the father, he let’s her raise her son under one condition: that she doesn’t remarry. Nahid however falls in love and, in an effort to keep custody of her son and hold on to the man she loves, she resorts to a temporary marriage. Although the solution is legal, the narrow-minded community around her refuses to accept it. Lost in a maze of written and unwritten laws that bar her way to freedom, a woman tries to pick up the pieces of her life. One more brilliant specimen of modern, restless Iranian cinema that won the Golden Camera and the Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
