The Cat People

The Cat People was the first common endeavor by Jacques Tourneur and the famous RKO producer Val Lewton. Lewton wanted to make a horror film in a different vein, opting for understated rather than explicit horror, so Turneur seemed a natural choice. The film stars French actress Simone Simon as a Serbian-born fashion designer obsessed with the idea that she will turn into a wild cat and kill if emotionally aroused. The film’s setting is familiar to many arthouse fans, as it was used by Orson Welles in The Magnificent Ambersons (1942). The Cat People were adapted in 1982 by Paul Schrader
