The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye

A pioneer of the punk and the industrial music scene with Psychic TV, a member of the art collective COUM that shocked Great Britain in the 70s, and William Burrough's good friend, Neil Andrew Megson is widely known as Genesis P-Orridge. In 1993 he meets Jacqueline Breyer, who becomes his partner, adopting the nickname Lady Jaye. Somewhere along the way the ballad begins – and is dedicated to unconditional love, since it’s written by two people who decide to become one. And although we’re used to using the above phrase metaphorically, here it acquires a literal meaning as the couple goes through multiple plastic and sex change surgeries with the ultimate goal to resemble each other as much as possible, naming their ambitious art project “pandrogyne”. The moving and sweet debut by Marie Losier won the Teddy Documentary award at the Berlin Film Festival, by capturing the tenderness, warmth and romanticism hidden in the least accessible souls.
