You're Sleeping Nicole

Build on a loose, episodic structure with consistently stunning cinematography, a light-hearted mood and a wonderful turn by Julianne Côté as the titular Nicole, the hidden gem of the last Cannes Film Festival is casting humorous looks at the first inevitable responsibilities that come with being an adult.

It's summer in Quebec and 22-year-old Nicole is hoping that, since her parents are away on holiday, she will have the house to herself, in order to spend the hottest months of the year undisturbed.

Suddenly, her older brother shows up with his band, news from her job are discouraging, insomnia is knocking on her door, a 10-year-old boy is persistently flirting with her and her best friend convinces her to use her credit card in the most thoughtless and disastrous way possible.

Build on a loose, episodic structure with consistently stunning cinematography, a light-hearted mood and a wonderful turn by Julianne Côté as the titular Nicole, the hidden gem of the last Cannes Film Festival is casting humorous looks at the first inevitable responsibilities that come with being an adult, wonderfully capturing what it means to be young and confused when the sun is burning and the temperature keeps rising.
