A twist on the contemporary Asian gangster genre, No Mercy for the Rude stars a mute hired assassin with a soft heart. Determined to raise money for a tongue operation he hopes will help him realize his dreams and gain intimacy, the unlikely killer goes after society’s scam ? something like Zorro, but Korean-style. First-time director Park Chul-Hee offers an explosive mixture of Asian violence and weepy family melodrama complete with fine Tarantinesque touches. No Mercy for the Rude was presented in the Rotterdam Film Festival.
