Jacques Audiard's "Rust and Bone", starring Marion Cottillard and Matthias Schoenaerts, the film that wowed in Cannes when it was screened as part of the festival's competition section, will be screened at the opening night of the 18th Athens International Film Festival Opening Nights COSMOTE.

The latest creation by Jacques Audiard is the most moving and passionate love story of the last few years, which dares to address, in the most poetic way imaginable, potent melodramatic conventions, pouring out of the screen like a tidal wave and overcoming any previous attempt to portray such a deeply sentimental cinematic odyssey.

After the masterpiece that was his previous film, "A Prophet", Audiard returns with a gripping and supremely feelgood, classic love story. Ali, a homeless young man with his five year old boy, finds shelter at his sister's house. He meets Stephanie, a whale trainer who loses both her legs after a tragic accident. Together they will learn to walk again.

In every frame Audiard showcases his enormous skills and leads his stars, Academy award-winning Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenaerts, to amazing performances. He mainly, thought, shows that his heroes learn how to survive with their maimed limbs, their bloodied faces and the most improbable deficiencies, through stunning images, artful editing and an amazing, pioneering minimalism in his narrative.

This year, from 19th till 30th September, the most beloved cinematic tradition of the capital inaugurates a new, promising partnership with COSMOTE. Its name changes to Athens International Film Festival Opening Nights COSMOTE and celebrates its coming of age with 12 days full of cinema and fun at the cinemas Odeon Opera 1 & 2 (Akadimias 57), Danaos 1 & 2 (Kifisias 109) and Ideal (Panepistimiou 46), featuring hotly anticipated premieres, rare musical documentaries, tributes and rare cinematic masterpieces.
