The Athens International Film Festival Opening Nights launches the Athens Film Lab

The Athens International Film Festival Opening Nights launches the Athens Film Lab a parallel section which will explore development issues of new film ideas and projects and which will provide training to professionals of the film industry. Additionally, search for co-productions will be at work, while Greek filmmakers and producers will have the opportunity to interact and co-operate with professionals of international fame.

Within this framework, another action will be running as well: Athens – Europe, game for 2 players, during which seven (7) short-films will be produced.

The purpose of this new program is:

Ι) to support and promote young filmmakers through a series of expertise workshops, speeches and pitching sessions with Greek and foreign producers, directors and scriptwriters.
ΙΙ) to highlight the cultural distinction of Athens and promote those elements which establish the city as an all-time metropolis, a cross-road of ideas and an ideal tourist destination.

We therefore invite young filmmakers to submit their short-film ideas, which will be granted with the amount of 7.000 Euros each.

Participants are required to submit their film idea by June 30th. Each project must be submitted either by the director and/or the scriptwriter and the producer.

Among the projects that will be submitted, 21 will be selected to participate in a series of script direction and production workshops, during this summer.

The Athens Film Lab will be completed during the upcoming Athens International Film Festival – Opening Nights: from the 23/9 to 4/10, where the expertise workshops (of script, direction and production) will be continued.

At the end of this procedure all participants will have the opportunity to present their projects to representatives of the European film industry and attend expertise classes of script, direction and production.

Finally, 7 scripts will be selected, and their production procedure will start immediately, in Greece.

Terms and conditions for participation:

1. The film must have a short duration between 10 to 15 minutes.
2. It must fall under the category of fiction.

It should be noted that the names of the 21 successful participants, who will continue in the second round, will be announced on July 6th, 2015. After the workshops which will take place between the 10th and 12th of July in Athens, the 21 participants will have the opportunity to improve their under-development film project until its presentation at the festival in September.
