A new era for our city’s favorite Festival: a partnership with Viva.gr!

After twenty years and a great number of films, “this idea that at first seemed like a crazy dream” ended up being “a great Athenian festival, a true crossroads of independent cinema, a celebration bringing more and more people together”, just like its creator Yorgos Tziotzios wished it would.
The Festival always wishes to reward its most loyal fans and win over new ones by listening to their wants, considering their needs and keeping step with the major film Festivals around the world.
So, it’s with great joy that we announce that this year the Athens International Film Festival is entering a new era by inaugurating its partnership with Viva.gr. For the first time in the history of the Festival, the audience will now be able to buy their tickets online, as well as across the large network of partner stores all over the city.
More specifically:
1. Buying tickets online |
It’s now easy, quick and simple: you can buy your ticket online for any screening you wish, be it from your home, your workplace or even outside the cinemas. With your credit or debit card, you can purchase tickets either by visiting www.viva.gr or using the corresponding app viva.gr, choosing the category Athens International Film Festival and the screening(s) you’d like to attend. You can then print out your tickets or use the electronic ticket stub on your mobile phone.
2. Physical points of sale |
Cinemas (where you can purchase tickets ONLY with cash): you can always buy your tickets at the Festival’s venues (Danaos 1&2, Odeon Opera 1&2, Ideal). At each of the venues you can buy tickets only for the screenings which will take place in that particular venue.
Network of Partnered stores Viva.gr (you can buy tickets by card and with cash): EKO, ΒP, METRO & My Market, PUBLIC, Shell, SEVEN SPOTS, RELOAD, MEDIA MARKT, and Evripidis.
3. Multiple-screening pass holders|
You can buy multiple-screening passes for 5, 10 and 20 screenings, which cost 20€, 35€, and 60€ respectively.
*BONUS for the 20-screening pass holders (60€):
a. on showing your 20-screening pass, you are entitled to a single invitation for the Festival’s opening ceremony, which will take place on September 21st, at Megaron – The Athens Concert Hall.
b. on showing their pass, you are entitled to a single invitation for a number of special surprise screenings, which will be by invitation only. Stay tuned for more information.
Special pass for people with disabilities
People with disabilities get a special pass for 10 free screenings of this year’s Festival. All guide dogs are also welcome.
Send us your headshot at press@aiff.gr along with your contact details (mobile number, e-mail address) and we will issue the 10-screening pass. You can collect your pass from our Press Office at Ianos (24 Stadiou st., 1st floor),from Wednesday September 21st to Thursday September 29th (from 11am to 6pm), on showing the following:
- A culture pass for people with disabilities [Ministry of Culture]
- A free public transport pass for people with disabilities [OASA]
- Unemployment card for people with disabilities [OAED]
- Membership card for the Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
The pass is to be strictly used by the person for whom it was issued. You can issue a zero-value ticket per screening for any 10 screenings you wish (except for the Opening Ceremony) throughout the Festival, subject to availability. You get to enter the screening on show of the zero value ticket and the pass you were issued.

4. Accreditations |
All accreditations for this year’s edition are to be collected from the Festival Press Office at Ianos.
KEEP IN MIND: The accreditation holders can issue their zero-value tickets only the day before or the day of the screening of their choice.
The accredited professionals will be issued a pass with a unique code, which they can use to attend 10 screenings overall (after having issued zero-value tickets for them). With this unique code, the accreditation holder can issue tickets for all screenings both online, via viva.gr, or at any points of sale (see Paragraph 2).

Accreditations for journalists: The accredited journalists will be issued a pass with a unique code, which they can use to attend 10 screenings overall (after having issued zero-value tickets for them). With this unique code, the accreditation holder can issue tickets for all screenings both online, via viva.gr, or at any points of sale (see Paragraph 2).
KEEP IN MIND: The accredited journalists can issue their zero-value tickets ONLY the day before or the day of the screening of their choice.
* Press screenings: all Festival press screenings have the sign ‘P’ on the screening schedule. The accredited journalists will have free access to all press screenings, without the use of their unique codes, only on showing their cards and:
a. collecting their zero-value ticket from the Festival Press Office at Ianos, from 11am to 5pm (except for Sundays)
b. or collecting their zero-value ticket from the cinema the screening is at, up until 15 minutes before the screenings starts. If they arrive any later than 15 minutes before the start of the screening, they forfeit their seat.
5. Free tickets for the unemployed |
Loyal in its support of the unemployed, the Festival will give out 2,000 free vouchers to unemployment card holders. Each unemployed card holder is entitled to up to 4 free vouchers.
The free vouchers will be distributed on Monday, September 19th at the Antonis Tritsis Hall, City of Athens Cultural Centre (50, Akadimias street, Panepistimio metro stop), between 11am and 6pm.
KEEP IN MIND: The free vouchers have to be exchanged for zero-value tickets the day before or the day of the screening, via viva.gr or the physical points of sale (see paragraph 2).
BONUS: on showing of the unemployment card, its holder is entitled to a single invitation for a number of special surprise screenings, which will be by invitation only. Stay tuned for more information.
6. Sweepstakes/Contest winners |
All sweepstakes or contest winners have to collect their zero-value ticket up until 15 minutes before the start of the screening; otherwise, they forfeit their free ticket.
7. Ticket prices |
5€: Matinee screenings (starting before 19:55)
6€: Regular screenings (starting after 19:55)
* All screenings at the Greek Film Archive (accessible for people with disabilities) are free and on a first-come-first-serve basis.
** Audience members can also purchase tickets for the screenings with the ‘P’ sign on the Festival screening schedule (press screening).
