The Eternity Man

Virtually unknown anywhere else in the world, Arthur Stace is one of Sydney’s most enigmatic figures. Barely literate, homeless, alcoholic and a regular client of the city’s brothels, Stace attended a sermon during which he received a revelation compelling him to fill the pavements of Sydney, night after night, with one single word: Eternity. Stace died in 1967, but in 2003 his story was picked up and turned into a chamber opera by composer Jonathan Mills and librettist Dorothy Porter. Julien Temple (of Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten fame) directs the opera for the big screen, injecting it with large doses of black humor and noir elements. Required viewing for all fans of the genre.
