Hailed as the temple of New York’s music scene, the CBGB club was the springboard for all those performers who have been dominating the city’s scene for the past thirty plus years. Touring the CBGB ruins with Jim Jarmush as our guide (the place closed down for good in October 2006,) it’s funny to think how this little den, buried somewhere in Manhattan, managed to define much of what we like to listen to today. But thanks to the rich archive footage we can still get a glimpse of what this place was like when performers such as the Ramones, Patti Smith, Television, Talking Heads, Blondie and the Fleshtones took the stage, as well as watch the many ?largely fruitless- efforts to retain the club’s original character. These walls don’t talk, but the stars parading through this documentary more than make up for it!
