EN WAAR DE STERRE BLEEF STILLE STAAN/ LITTLE BABY JESUS OF FLANDRE

The first ever dissertation film to be admitted to the Cannes Film Festival, "Little Baby Jesus Οf Flandr" is an allegorical b&w tale about three beggars -played exclusively by Down syndrome actors- who decide to go caroling on Christmas Eve to make some cash. Indeed, their plan is successful and they soon land themselves a neat sum. Making their way to the pub, they get lost in the woods, where they witnessed what they believe to be the birth of baby Jesus. Amazed, they decide to give away their earnings. But when they decide to go caroling again next year, they squabble over the gifts and part their ways. Strange, enigmatic and open to interpretation, 24-year-old Gust Van den Berghe's debut will not fail to impress with its iconoclastic power.
