Born to two national heroes in Tito’s Yugoslavia, Marina Abramovic began her career in Belgrade in the 70s, where she was considered stark raving mad, and continued to wander the world of performance in Amsterdam with her partner Ulay. The couple gained notoriety in their effort to map the limits of love and co-existence through live representations, while at the same time putting performance on equal footing with other art forms.
