They called him the French Elvis Presley and for two decades he was the ultimate pop idol in his country of origin. He was one of the composers behind "Comme d’ Ηabitude", the song that was later renamed "My Way" and made Frank Sinatra’s voice famous the world over. "My Way" is the real story of Claude François, retracing the footsteps of this charismatic star from his birth in Egypt to the hardships of repatriation, and from his first steps in show business all the way to international acclaim. Gifted but vain to boot, François learned the rules of the media game and quickly developed into a PR virtuoso. Florent-Emilio Siri films his biography, citing his ultra ambitious character, his dysfunctional relationships with women and the undeniable virtues of an artist whose career abruptly came to an end, following his untimely death by electrocution at 39 years old. 1988 saw the release of N.W.A.'s "Fuck tha Police", a seminal track for the hip hop culture, indicating the underlying tension between the African-American community and the Los Angeles Police Department. The final straw came three years later, when a video documenting the savage beating of African-American Rodney King by LAPD officers made its way to the news, fuelling some of the most violent riots in US history.
