The relentlessly agonizing debut by Irish filmmaker Ciaran Foy, transforms the drab urban surroundings into a desolate setting straight out of hell, where civilization seems to have receded for life. Boasting a riveting performance by Aneurin Barnard, «Citadel» masterfully depicts the main character’s troubled psyche, in a tightly would mixture of suspense, terror and social allegory that won the Audience Award at SXSW.
