On the Job

Inspired by a true story, Erik Matti weaves a labyrinthine web of corruption, professional ambition and unlawful means of survival against the urban jungle of metropolitan Manila.

During an unofficial leave, two convicts are forced to carry out contract killings secretly assigned to them by hi-ranking prison officials. At the same time, two law enforcement officers are investigating a series of murders that seem to point at top-tier political figures. Inevitably, their paths will cross and the four men with collide violently, unaware that they are nothing but cogs in a ruthless machine that’s putting them and their families in mortal danger.

Inspired by a true story, Erik Matti weaves a labyrinthine web of corruption, professional ambition and unlawful means of survival against the urban jungle of metropolitan Manila. Masterfully executed action sequences, unrelenting suspense and an atmosphere that almost reeks of blood and sweat, make up a cynical and downright dirty thriller that forces viewers to become accomplices to a never-ending cycle of violence with no clear winners or losers. Official selection at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes. Th. P.

Avoiding a traditional reenactment, the director chooses to highlight intimate moments on both sides of the fence.
