“Boxer” follows the transition of a veteran athlete, Yorgos Ioannidis, into his new role as coach at the Aristoteleion Boxing Club. The film reveals the unseen side of boxing, humanizing a sport that’s has little to do with its popular conception.

Documenting life in and out of the club’s basement location brings to mind what Angelos Harisis once told the director about starting to box because he was totally fascinated by the beat-up face of a boxer.

“You can never tell what’s in the heart of a boxer,” says Yorgos Panteleakis. “It’s like looking the moon, you can only ever see the bright side. Boxing is on the dark side.” A documentary-portrait of a misunderstood and misrepresented sport and an honest descent into the world of boxers.
