The Canal

David is a film archivist and has just moved with his wife Alice into a new house, near an old canal. Everything seems to be going well on the surface, but the young husband is beginning to suspect his wife is cheating on him, while some old archival footage reveals that his home was the scene of a gruesome crime in the beginning of the 20th Century.

Can things get any worse? Apparently they can: David starts to sense an invisible presence inside his home right before his wife disappears, with all evidence pointing to him as the prime suspect.

Ivan Kavanagh's eerie thriller combines cinephile references and arthouse aesthetics with the paranormal trend of the past five years, delivering moments of unprecedented midnight madness. Reminiscent of similar attempts, like Peter Strickland's "Berberian Sound Studio", "The Canal" tries to break the fourth wall, while keeping audiences on the edge of their seats. Ph.V.
