Hopper Vu Par

24/9/2015, 18:45,ODEON Οπερα 2

Eight European filmmakers turn eight well-known Edward Hopper paintings into shorts, each from his own idiosyncratic perspective. The ultimate love letter to America’s most celebrated realist painter.

A unique anthology film, dedicated to one of the most important representatives of American realism. Encour- aged by the enthusiastic receipt of the Edward Hopper exhibition in Paris in 2013, eight European filmmakers turn their favorite Hopper (1882-1967) paintings into shorts, each from his or her own point of view. From Mathieu Amalric – the only director to choose a Hopper with no people in sight - to German filmmaker Hannes Stöhr, newcomer Dominique Blanc, NY indie Queen Sophie Barthes, Belgian director Valérie Pirson (who turned a painting into an animated short), Dane Martin de Thurah, screenwriter/director Valérie Mréjen and British documentary filmmaker Sophie Fiennes, the films reflect eight completely different perspectives on the American artist’s work.
