21 year-old Jane, an aspiring actress who spends her days with her dog Starlet and getting high with her flatmates, crosses paths with Sadie, an unpleasant old widow, when the former buys from the latter in a yard-sale a thermos full of hidden money! Undecided about whether or not to return the money, Jane starts spending time with the old lady, but in this unusual friendship that will develop money will not be the only secret.
In «Starlet», Baker leaves Manhattan for the West Coast and the always sunny San Fernando Valley in California and attempts a study of stereotypes and prejudices through the chronicle of an unexpected friendship. Only seemingly normal, the two women are nothing but victims them too of the social stigmatizing, something that will occur within the same direct, unforced, fresh narrative manner that the director perfects from film to film. The newcomers Dree Hemingway (great-granddaughter of the great writer) and Besedka Johnson shine in the roles of Jane and Sadie respectively.
