A revenge story that, somewhere between politicians looking to put the country's mineral resources to good use for a price, sex trafficking victims and cops exploiting immigrants, will turn everything upside down. Achilles is a photographer living in Athens. In order to make ends meet, he's hired by Mario Sfikas, a well-respected political reporter and major behind-the-scenes player, to do some illegal surveillance. But when his camera records something that stoops below his own lax ethical standards, he decides to quit. Cοrrupt politicians, cops and business- men compete in a game of power with countless victims, none of them innocent. When everything around you falls to pieces, the only thing that keeps you going is anger. "The Republic" is a revenge story, a constant battle in a city of ruins. A film straight out of contemporary Greek reality that's not too far removed from the truth.
