Variations on the Same Subject / Ιdeés fixes / Diesirae

1/10/2015,19:30,Ταινιοθήκη της Ελλάδος

The debut feature of avant-garde Greek director Antoinetta Angelidi is all about reconstructions of the female form in contemporary art and approaching gender as an aesthetic artifice instead of a specific predestined fate. One of the most significant specimens of Greek experimental cinema.

In my work, I’m mostly concerned with film language as a documentation of the different voices produced by genre heterogeneity, pushing the boundaries of cinematic representation and incorporating the filmmaker’s point of view. "Variation on the Same Subject" deals with the issue of female representation in modern art history: gender as construction and not as destiny. The film is structured on two axes: on the one hand you’ve got the representations of the female body and the body of representations; on the other hand, there’s writing within a certain situation instead of writing about a situation. The film was always intended as a simultaneous composi- tion and removal of the code of certain sounds and images. Inverting the code, as well as the conflict between the codes makes up this film’s narrative and the way it should be interpreted.
