Double Take

It is 1962, the height of the Cold War, and Alfred Hitchcock is on the set of ?The Birds?, when he is asked to take a phone call. He ends up in an empty building where he sees his double waiting for him. ?They say that if you meet your double you should kill him, or he will kill you; two of you is one too many,? he is warned. This bizarre episode serves as a springboard for an exploration of institutionalized fear ? as prevalent in Hitchcock’s time as in our own. Based on a short story by Tom McCarthy, ?Double Take? assaults the viewer with a relentless barrage of images demonstrating how entertainment and media industry-created paranoia enters the home and takes over our consciousness.
