Gonzo: The Life And Work Of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

?This won’t hurt,? scribbled Hunter S. Thompson on his suicide note and proceeded to blow his brains out. At his funeral, his ashes were fired from a canon atop a tower of his own design. And that was the end of the eccentric, bourbon-drinking, drug taking writer and founding father of gonzo journalism, who, in his own words, ‘hated to advocate drugs, alcohol or insanity to anyone but they always worked for him.’ Best known as the author of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hunter S. Thompson is an icon of American popular culture. Focusing on Thompson’s golden age, from 1965 to 1974, director Alex Gibney collects a wealth of unpublished manuscripts and audiovisual material to shed light on this truly inimitable figure. The film was featured at the Sundance Film Festival.
