Roskilde

Held in Denmark, Roskilde is the largest music festival in Europe. Each year, visitors flock in the tens of thousands to watch the likes of Placebo, Franz Ferdinand and Sonic Youth. None of the staffers are paid ? they are all volunteers. In 2000 the festival’s good nature was marred by a tragic accident, in which 9 people were crushed to death during a Pearl Jam performance leading Roskilde to revise its safety procedures. In his documentary, Ulrik Wivel attempts to offer an all-encompassing view of the festival inviting the viewer to partake in all its activities, as spectator, organizer, volunteer, reporter and performer. When we’re talking about true free-spirit festivals, then we're talking about Roskilde.
