Married to an abusive husband, unable to make a living on her own on her waitressing job and further burdened by an unwanted pregnancy, Gina seems stuck in the middle. Her only way out seems to be her relationship with her obstetrician. But will that be enough? Mercifully steering clear of clichés, recently deceased actress and director Adrienne Shelly’s last film is a bittersweet, melancholy comedy about escapism and the dream for a better life. Waitress was presented in the Sundance Film Festival.
