A hard-working family man sees his dream of a privileged life crumble when the company he has worked for 25 years decides to fire him. In his despair, and not wanting to be deprived of the luxuries he had enjoyed until then with his wife, their two children, and two beloved four-legged friends, the hero decides to eliminate any other candidate who intends to compete with him for the same position in a new job, so that his own hiring is assured. With the blessing of Costa-Gavras, the Korean auteur of “Old Boy” and “The Handmaiden” adapts the Greek director’s “The Axe” into a hyper-stylized and orgiastic black comedy—a frenzied response to Bong Joon-ho's “Parasite” that demonstrates Park Chan-wook's superior directorial mastery.
