Senna

The man who forced Brazilians to turn their attention from football to Formula 1. The greatest driver ever to step onto a high-speed race track. An athlete who went beyond the narrow confines of his country and became a world legend. Directed by the British filmmaker Asif Kapadia, “Senna” recounts the life and races of the Brazilian three-time world champion of Formula 1, Ayrton Senna, from the start of his career until his tragic death at the age of 34 at the San Marino Grand Prix. Through exclusive archival footage, from his early stints at Toleman and McLaren, extensive clips from the actual races, previously unreleased moments from home videos, to shots of his funeral, “Senna” grips you and doesn’t let you breathe, more reminiscent of a pure action film than a conventional documentary. The smell of burnt tires, the speed limits and the high adrenaline, in a documentary that won the Audience Award at this year’s Sundance festival.
