The Golden Athena Award

The Jury of the Athens International Film Festival Opening Nights consists of five audiovisual students from Greek Universities, aged between 18 and 25. The Golden Athena Award for best film is presented to the director of the most aesthetically and technically accomplished entry in the Official Competition section and is accompanied by a 2,000-euro cash prize. The gold-dipped statuette of the goddess Athena was designed by Giorgos Sepetzoglou and is kindly sponsored by La Chrysoteque ZOLOTAS.

City of Athens Best Director Award

The City of Athens Best Director Award is presented to the most accomplished directorial effort in the Official Competition section. The commemorative plaque is awarded by the youth jury.

Best Screenplay Award

TThe Best Screenplay Award is presented by the youth jury to the best screenwriter in the Official Competition Section.

MUSIC & FILM

The Golden Athena Best Music & Film Award

The winner in the Music & Film section is selected by a five-person jury, consisting of established journalists and film critics from Greece and abroad. The gold-dipped statuette of the goddess Athena, accompanied by a 2,000-euro cash prize, was designed by Giorgos Sepetzoglou and is kindly sponsored by La Chrysoteque ZOLOTAS.

AUDIENCE AWARD

The Audience Award is determined by the daily vote of the audience and consists of a commemorative plaque. It is sponsored by Popcode, powered by Oneman.gr.

BEST SHORT FILM AWARD

The Athens International Film Festival - Opening Nights supports the local film community by establishing a brand new Greek Short Film Competition section for recently produced work. A specially appointed jury will present the awards: Best Film (accompanied by 2000 euros with the kind support of the Greek Film Centre.), Best Film - second place, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Male and Female Actor.

BEST NEWCOMER AWARDS

This awards are given to the best Greek director and the best performances by an actor and an actress, from any feature film had at least one public ticketed showing in a film theatre or festival anywhere in Greece in the months after the festival's prior edition and the current one. A 5-membered jury, comprised of people from the film industry, votes for these awards.
