The Source

At the beginning of the 70s, a mysterious man with a shady past showed up in Los Angeles to set the foundations for a religious cult that managed to attract a large number of California youths, who embraced the communal living in an effort to revive the hippie utopia of the 60s.

At the beginning of the 70s, a mysterious man with a shady past showed up in Los Angeles to set the foundations for a religious cult that managed to attract a large number of California youths, who embraced the communal living in an effort to revive the hippie utopia of the 60s. Just like most cults, The Source might have started out full of promise, but it gradually took a rather unsettling turn for the darker. The chronicle of the birth, the ecstatic growth and its devastating finale is brought to pulsating life through brilliant archival material and disarmingly honest interviews with the surviving members of the cult, making "The Source" one of the most revealing documentaries on this particular subject-matter.
