In the Name of...

In a rural community somewhere in Poland, a conscientious priest has gathered a handful of youngsters under his wing, desperately trying to keep them away from delinquency.

In a rural community somewhere in Poland, a conscientious priest has gathered a handful of youngsters under his wing, desperately trying to keep them away from delinquency. Among his unruly brood, a fragile young man will awaken sexual desires, bringing him face to face with his repressed sexuality, as well as the disciplined adherence to his religious beliefs.

This primordial clash between reason and instinct, what the mind dictates versus what the heart desires, is the focal point of “In the Name of”, a film made with unrivalled visual panache and endless understanding by Polish-born Malgorzata Szumowska. L.K.

    All is Lost

Can a film with a cast of one, very little dialogue and the endless blue sea as its sole location keep you nailed to your seat for one hour and 45 minutes? The answer is yes, if it's directed by J.C. Chandor.
