Labyrinth of Lies

A devastating film based on a true story. In 1958 a young lawyer discovers that his neighbor is a former Nazi extermination camp commander and decides to bring him to justice. The first Auschwitz trial in Frankfurt created a chain reaction throughout an entire nation that refused to look reality in the eye.

Germany, 1958. No one knows what happened at Auschwitz. And no one dares ask. Former SS members are now teachers, bakers and public servants. They walk freely amonth their unsuspecting countrymen, who think all those stories about the Holocaust and the tortures at the concentration camps were nothing but urban legends or enemy propaganda, at best. Alexander Fehling, who we first got to know as an "Inglourious Basterd" in 2009 and then again as "Young Goethe in Love" in 2010, plays an ambitious German lawyer who forces an entire na- tion to confront its guilty past, bringing former members of the SS to trial for the very first time. But no one can guarantee he’s going to come out the other side unscathed. The film sheds light on the horrors of WWII and how they was cunningly concealed by an entire society. Giulio Ricciarelli’s directorial debut picks its way through a labyrinth of lies only to restore the painful truth and see history vindicated.
