The Babadook

One night, after they've read a particularly dark and disturbing children's book, the otherworldly figure that haunts the pages comes to life and mother and son will have a fateful encounter with the supernatural.

A young mother, plagued by the violent death of her husband, tries to bring up her 6-year-old son and negotiate the immense void the loss of her loved one has left behind.

One night, after they've read a particularly dark and disturbing children's book, the otherworldly figure that haunts the pages comes to life and mother and son will have a fateful encounter with the supernatural.

In her much-lauded debut, Australian filmmaker Jennifer Kent draws inspiration from iconography and the traditional horror movie plots and atmosphere, only to incorporate them in something much more complicated and insightful: a story on the clash between reason and absurdity and the struggle of one woman with demons that are more likely nestled inside her rather than outside, in the real world. She accepts reluctantly, as long as she gets to see her mother every Tuesday.

    The Infinite Man

Somewhere between "Groundhog Day" and "Return to the Future", Hugh Sullivan's debut is the most ingenious rom com of the year, putting a welcome spin on a tired genre with an equally hilarious and sophisticated take on science fiction.
